For our Where Color Lives series, we’re sitting down with women whose personal style, work, and everyday lives embody our favorite philosophy: there’s always room for a little more color.
This time, we caught up with Lucy White of Lucy White Art, whose instinctive approach to color feels right at home in the Brooks Avenue world. From the shades she reaches for when getting dressed to the unexpected places she finds inspiration, Lucy shares why color has always felt less like a styling choice and more like second nature.
On Getting Dressed
What role does color play in the way you get dressed? Are there certain shades you reach for when you want to feel confident, creative, or most like yourself?
My favorite type of dressing is anything that feels comfortable and easy but with a little twist. I always find myself adding color even if it’s subconscious, like whatever I’m wearing wouldn’t feel fully complete without it.
On Living Colorfully
What does "living colorfully" mean to you?
Using color wherever and whenever you can, in a way that makes you feel best!
Favorite Color Pairings
What's a color combination you'll never get tired of?
Been very into green/brown/ivory, also big fan of mauve.
Where Inspiration Finds Her
What has most influenced your sense of color and style, whether it’s a destination, an art movement, an experience? / Where do you find color inspiration outside of fashion?
I honestly have just always loved and used color. It’s an integral part of my art and design, and no matter how much my style changes and evolves, color seems to be a constant. It’s almost like using a colorful palette is more natural than neutrals for me.
Living in New York I think you’re almost inundated with the opportunity for inspiration. I’ve learned that being open to getting inspiration from anywhere is ultimately what leads me to it, even if it comes from somewhere I wasn’t expecting.
The Finishing Touch
What’s one detail you never overlook when getting dressed or hosting friends?
Signature scent, both for you and your home!
This Fall, She's Wearing...
What Brooks Avenue piece are you reaching for this fall?
Impossible to pick just one!!
Color As a Constant
What we love most about Lucy’s approach to color is that it doesn’t feel overly calculated. It’s simply woven into the way she creates, dresses, and sees the world. Whether it’s an unexpected color combination, a signature scent, or inspiration found while walking around New York, her philosophy is a good reminder that “living colorfully” doesn’t have to mean following any particular rules.
Sometimes, it’s simply choosing the things that make life feel a little more like you.
